Advice to Thy Younger Self.

Funny thing about life…from experience we find wisdom.  So often we look back at life and think “If I only knew then what I know now.”  This got me thinking about what kind of advise I would give to my younger-self if I could.  Here are some gems:

  1. When your gut says he’s cheating – girl,he’s cheating.  Don’t waste anymore time than necessary.
  2. You can’t control other people’s actions but you can control your own reaction.  Don’t allow others to suck away your spirit.
  3. Remember all things are temporary.  If it’s great, it’s temporary.  If it’s sad, it’s temporary.  If you are angry, it’s temporary.
  4. Grandpa was right…whatever you are going through, “this too shall pass.”  There is a reason mom says that all the time.
  5. Don’t fall of the fitness wagon for too long; it’s gonna take a lot longer to get back on track than you think.
  6. There is always going to be one more work project…but you aren’t going to get another life.  Find balance early and learn how to say “no.”

I reached out to the group on Facebook and got a few responses from other strong ladies (and a few gentlemen even chimed in too).  Here’s some of the good stuff:

  1. You ARE thin!!! Seriously! Now put on that bikini and have fun!!
  2. Be adventurous and don’t care what other people say.
  3. Spend more time with the ones you love.  Life is short.
  4. Don’t be in such a hurry to grown up!!
  5. Listen to your parents; they know what’s best for you.
  6. Don’t stress over something you have no control over.
  7. Take care of your body.  It has to last you.
  8. You could be the ripest juiciest peach in the world and someone still won’t like peaches.  Keep being kind to people.
  9. Stop wasting time with and listening to people who are holding you back.
  10. Be a friend; let others live their journey, and don’t take their bad day personally (it’s not you).
  11. Stop worrying about whatever everyone else thinks.  The truth is, they aren’t thinking about you!
  12. Don’t be in such a hurry.
  13. Invent Facebook.
  14. Trust your gut.
  15. Learn to say “no” early and often.
  16. It’s okay to love yourself completely.  Its fine to grow and learn and change, but your sense of self-worth should not be contingent.
  17. You can’t take it back.
  18. Take time to do what you want.  Enjoy EVERYDAY!!
  19. Don’t worry…everything will work itself out.
  20. God puts everyone and everything in your path for a reason.  I promise everything will always work.  FYI – follow that gut instinct it will save you a lot of hurt.
  21. Slow down and enjoy life.
  22. Always tell your loved ones how you feel.
  23. Learn to say NO and…you only THINK you know everything.
