Happy Saturday friends! This morning with my little girl time “coffee talk” blog I wanted to give you a simple thought: Take the time to learn something new every day.
We spend so much time on social media these days…looking at pictures on Instagram, reading Tweets on Twitter, watching the baby animal videos on YouTube, or scrolling through the endless ads and random whatever’s on Facebook. Indeed, after a long day, I too can easily get caught up in the mind numbing finger swooosh across the screen to escape reality for a little while. Sometimes it just feels good to look at something where you don’t have to think for a little while.
At the same time, if you are spending time on the internet and social media, why not take some of that time away from the mind numbing scroll or swipe and actually invest in yourself? Lately this is something I’m pushing myself into more and more and I’m really enjoying it.
For example, with all the political posts and negativity that has been going on over in Facebook land I have switched over to LinkedIn. I find that I spend more time on LinkedIn now, reading articles about things going on in my industry or just random things that I have an interest in – like killer new techniques to strengthen my hamstrings. I’ll even watch a video about social media marketing just because it intrigues me. So while I’m being entertained in a different way I am also learning. Knowledge is the one thing no one can take away from you.
So today I challenge you. Instead of spending all of your time with the mindless scroll or swipe cruise on over to something that will stimulate your brain, help you with your career, help hone in on old skills, introduce you to a new hobby or just a different way of thinking. You’d be surprised at the benefits that will come from it.
