Why I write.
My grandmother, who happens to be one the the strongest women I know – next to my mother of course, has been telling me for years that I should write a book. If you ask me, I think she should be the one to write a book and I suppose in a way she has. You see, my grandmother has a journal that she has been writing in nearly every day for most of her life. She always told me that if I ever read it I would know the days she was mad because it would be written in short hand. If I ever want to learn the juicy stuff I guess I am going to have to learn some shorthand.
In any event, after writing in my legal blog I come to understand how therapeutic writing can be. Law can be pretty dry at times and writing, well, writing provides me a creative outlet that I don’t exactly get from work. Plus, here I get to write about what I feel like talking about, not what I absolutely have to talk about. So, in the beginning I started writing for a creative outlet.
Recently, and for what reason I don’t know, I started thinking about some of the strongest women that I know…the things they have been through, the fears that they have overcome, the sacrifices they made in the pursuit of goals and how awesome all of these ladies were and how inspiring some of their stories were. I realized that I loved hearing these women’s stories – especially the ones that I could, myself, relate with. There is always something special about a story where you feel that the other person really knows where you are coming from. That then got me thinking about my own stories…and maybe someone else out there might find what I have to say as inspiring as the other women’s stories are to me.
Tonight begins my journey of writing; writing about my own life stories and, hopefully, collecting stories from other women who are willing to let me share their story on my blog as well. I always say that you never know who will be inspired or find comfort in your stories…and now it’s time for me to practice what I preach.
Please consider following me through this journey and please…feel free to comment!
